Dad supported Stephanie and I in every way possible, even when there was little hope of success. As a case in point, let me recite how much he supported my desire to be a basketball player during my high school days. I played as a 5'8" forward as a captain of my team. Now, those of you who know basketball, how many teams play with a 5'8" forward? Our center was 6'2". Dad used to joke that he was actually 6'0" but he had a two inch peak on top of his head. Our "power" forward was 5'11" and we had guards of 5'9" and 5'3". Yes, I kid you not. Despite having 1-23 and 1-24 seasons during my junior and senior seasons, Dad was at nearly every game. He rooted for us and cheered (when there was reason to) when no one else would. He was admired by my teammates as the only parent crazy enough to follow us through such futility. Even though he knew the cause was hopeless (it was), he still showed his support as he has with just about every friend and family member whose life he touched. This is one of the many reasons that the life he lived was so full and he was so well loved.
